Access to clean water is a necessity, but to the population of Muzac it still remains one of its biggest challenges, and even a commodity for some. In certain areas, people have to walk two kilometers or more to get tap water, and unfortunately, they have to drink the untreated water. The lack of drinking water is always a major factor for many health issues in Muzac, causing people, especially children to be infected with preventable diseases such malaria, cholera, typhoid fever and other contaminated water related diseases.
However, during the summer 2014, thanks to the effort and dedication of a few local leaders, and the generosity of “Water for Life”, a water project was launched. As a result, Muzac has some well water systems providing clean water to a good portion of the population. Our aim now is to modernize these wells with electric pumps powered by solar panels in order to improve the water distribution and to expand the water project so that everyone can have access to clean water in less than one kilometer. Because of the topography of the area, providing water to the whole population is an immense challenge. It would be a milestone and a great accomplishment if succeeded.
